The simplest way to generate a key pair is to run ssh-keygen without arguments. In this case, it will prompt for the file in which to store keys. The -t type option specifies the type of key to create. The possible values “rsa†or “dsa†for protocol version 2. The $HOME/.ssh stores the following two files:
